You may ask yourself some very simple questions when visiting our site, why should I buy Rick Broome Aviation Art?  What makes Rick's work different than any other aviation artists? Why should I pay hundreds of dollars for something I could probably get done by someone else for a lot cheaper. There is one simple answer, Investment!  We do not sell low priced cheap artwork.  We are in the business of Fine Art.  What is the difference?  Posters, are something that you like that is cheap and you can pin up on the wall.  Fine Art is an Investment that will hold and most times increase its value for generations to come.  All of the artwork we sell is exactly that, an investment!  There are many aviation artists, or illustrators around the world, however, Rick is one of the VERY FEW that actually make a living at creating fine art.  Most of the other aviation illustrators do their work part time, and carry some other type of profession.  Rick is a FULL TIME Aviation Artist and Historian.  That is not to say that others creating aviation art are not qualified or good at what they do.  There are a number of them that are quite talented.  However, the investment in the final product is what you should be thinking about when you decide to purchase a work of art, not the price of the artwork.

One of Rick's greatest attributes is that he has documented every painting he has ever done.  This in itself is why his work is so highly appraised.  Another aspect of his work being so highly valued, is the amount of time it takes to create.  Many others in the Aviation Art field can whip out a painting in very short order.  Some take a weekend, others up to a few weeks.  This is generally based on the style of painting they do.  Rick's Original work can take up to 4000 hours to complete.  His 2005 Class painting "To Match My Mountains" took nearly 4000 hours studio time to create.  That is nearly 24 weeks working 24 hours a day.  Put that into a normal work schedule and it would take 100 weeks to create one masterpiece.  That is nearly 2 years!  With that, you may be asking why it takes him so long.  The answer is in his style of painting.

Rick paints in the Old World Flemish style.  This is the same technique that Rembrandt used.  This style of painting revolves around hundreds of layers of transparent paint.  The final product gives you a dramatic effect in the sense that the painting "moves" or "changes" depending on the lighting.  Most artists avoid this type of painting style because of the time involvement.  They paint in "opaque" , or solid color.  This is why Rick takes the time he does to create his original works.

Although many can't afford an Original painting by Rick Broome, we offer reproductions at well below fair market value.  Most of his older reproductions are available in limited edition prints.  These prints cost between $35.00 and $2000.00 depending on the number of editions and the status of the prints.  The technology used back in the day to create these editions was the use of an offset printer.  These large machines would use plates and color separations to create the print.  Although we have a number of his older works available as limited edition prints, new technology has enabled us to be more flexible, and increase production allowing us to produce any of his works without the high price and volume of creating an edition.

We now Self Publish almost all of Rick's work.  With the increase in digital technology, we can now avoid having to produce a large number of prints in an edition at great cost and only produce what we need when we need it.  We invested in this technology in late 2004.  This has enabled us to be able to produce ANY of Rick's work in medium to large format.  Also, with the increase in this technology, the color, vibrancy, and detail is greater than it has ever been.  We now publish in 7 color formats.  Before, it was limited to 3 to 5 color.  Hence, the reproduction looked washed out, or lacked the vibrancy of Rick's work.  Now, our editions are almost Identical to the original, at a fraction of the price.  We now publish most of our editions on Canvas, which increases the look of the artwork to near original quality.  Rick's Starlite Editions are even more dramatic now than ever before!  (Picture Below).

Finally, there is one more question to answer?  Many people invest in companies with Risk.  Why not invest in Artwork that will last a lifetime.  If you do the math, one of Rick's normal Canvas Reproductions costs about $195.00 for a 20x24.  This artwork will last for a lifetime.  Minimum, 75 years.  Doing the math, that equates to $2.60 per year.  Not a lot to invest in something that will be worth more than 10 times that over the duration.
